Who Do You Expect To Meet Your Needs?

Do you ever stop & think about the pressure we put on others to meet our needs?  What about the pressure we put on ourselves to possess things that we think will meet our needs & make us happy? Whether it’s in our personal relationships – does the perfect gift makes us feel loved? In our professional lives – does a promotion or job title make us feel important or worthy? In our homes – does more “stuff” or more expensive “stuff” make us feel safe, secure, or complete? Today I have insight about identifying & meeting our needs.  Are we looking in the right places? Who do you expect…

What Can We DO When We Feel Powerless?

Hey y’all! It’s been a while since I’ve posted an inspirational quote from my cousin The Chaplain.  So sorry I’ve been slipping on that, but now he’s back at it & I’m back to posting his gems. As usual, this is a great one. “Today, let’s consider if [whether or not] we are feeling powerless? Have circumstances taken a turn we don’t like? Do we feel there’s nothing we can do to make today better? One power that’s always available to us is the power to love ourselves. How to Own Your Power With Difficult People in 3 Steps

Let’s consider if we have someone in our lives who challenges our ability to trust and care for ourselves. We give up our power to that person. The child in us gets hooked with a mixture of powerful feelings - love, fear, or anger...

Thoughts On Being Grateful For Each Day

Good morning my friends. Today, let’s consider that what we do is important because we’re exchanging a day of our lives for it. We show self-respect in how we choose to spend our time. Do we give tasks the time required for our best efforts? Or do we feel unworthy of quality work? Do we have a right to stop working and just play? Are we worth spending time with – just ourselves, or do we feel that meaningful time is only spent with others? Are we worth caring enough about to enjoy bathing, grooming, or getting haircuts? Do we care enough about ourselves to see a dentist or a…

Self-Affirmation: Discover, Learn, & Be Who You Are

People all over the world, especially women & girls, fall into the trap of comparisonitis. It’s when we look at other people {women} & say things like “I wish I had a body like that” or “Why don’t skinny jeans look like that on me?” or “I wish I could get my hair/skin/nails etc. to look like that!”  Sometimes it’s more subtle but we hear (& some of us say) it all the time. Some of us never accept ourselves for who we are & as a result never get to that higher level of self love.  Others just continue to manipulate themselves to try to get to that point.…

May Is Mental Health Awareness Month

Everyone is going through something or knows someone who is. There are the physical issues that we can easily see such as broken or missing limbs.  Then there are the physical issues that we can’t see but can clearly see the affect on someone’s daily life – my grandmother has developed arthritis after 90 years & it has surely slowed her down a little.  Beyond the physical is the mental & believe it or not, that affects the physical more than you may know. Whether it’s personal, physical, emotional, or mental, there is something you can do. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. You – WE – can be aware,…

Why is listening an important skill to cultivate?

In daily life, how often do you find yourself talking? How often are you telling a story, talking about your life, giving a long winded answer to a question, lecturing (i.e. injecting your opinion)? How often do you find yourself listening? Really listening… to yourself, to others, to your surroundings, to your Higher Power? Without formulating thoughts or responses or “zoning out”? I don’t know 1 person who doesn’t have to work to be an active listener, we all struggle.  Continuing to work on it is most important. We all have so much to say, so much to tell – a lifetime’s worth of things.  So why is listening an important…

The Best Is Yet To Come – Expect Good Things

Good morning. Today, let’s wait, and expect good things—for ourselves and our loved ones. When we wonder what is coming, let’s tell ourselves the best is coming, the very best life and love have to offer, the best our Higher Power and His universe have to send. Then, let’s open our hands to receive it. Claim it, and it is ours. Today, let’s see the best in our minds; envision what it will look like, what it will feel like. Let’s focus, until we can see it clearly. Let our whole being, body and soul, enter into and hold onto the image for a moment. Then, let it go, and…

Choose to Have a Good Day

Top of the morning dear friends. Today, let’s consider that good feelings can become a habitual part of our lives. There is absolutely no virtue in the unnecessary suffering many of us have felt for much of our life. We don’t have to allow others to make us miserable, and we don’t have to make ourselves miserable. A good day does not have to be the “calm before the storm.” That’s an old way of thinking we learned in dysfunctional systems. In recovery and healing, a good day or a good feeling doesn’t mean we’re in denial. We don’t have to wreck our good times by obsessively searching for or…

    Believe in Yourself

Self doubt is nothing less than sabotage. Others will always have doubt & criticism, both constructive & not. To unnecessarily doubt ourselves just holds us back, closes us off to opportunities & the possibilities for our lives.  For years I doubted my own abilities; in the corporate IT world, “they said” I couldn’t succeed as programmer in a male dominated industry.  I believed the people who said that, yet I did succeed. “If you want to move up you’ve got to get into analysis & leave coding alone”. Except I like to write code. Then it was “you’ll never be a project manager, that’s where the real money is.” But I…
